Manwich, a portmanteau of man and sandwich, is the brand name of a canned sloppy joe sauce produced by ConAgra Foods and Hunt's, introduced in 1969. The can contains seasoned tomato sauce that is added to ground beef cooked in a skillet. It is marketed as a quick and easy one-pan meal for the whole family.

Manwich sauce is more "zesty" than bold, our tasters say. The majority used ground beef in the sauce - a concoction of tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, garlic and spices - and made it into sandwiches.

ConAgra introduced Manwich, an easy-cook, just-add-meat sauce, in 1969. Fifty-four years and four flavors later, Manwich is still a hearty go-to meal, but it's got nothing on the Joe they sling on special at Se7enbites. “We run it at least twice a month,” says chef/owner Trina Gregory.

Marketed with the slogan “A sandwich is a sandwich, but a manwich is a meal,” it's no surprise that this one-pan meal became so popular during the 1970s and 80s, and for many years, Americans made their Sloppy Joes straight out of a can.

SloppyJoe is a sandwich made of ground beef, onions, tomato sauce or ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and other seasonings. It is served on a hamburger bun. It came about in the United States sometime in the 20th century. Manwich is just a canned version which already has all the spiced added.
