Kia Motors America (Kia) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Sedona vehicles equipped with manually-adjusted front passenger seats. Over time, the Occupant Detection System (ODS) wiring harness located underneath the front passenger seat may break from the seat being occupied.

And while we've had our share of ups and - well, come to think of it, just ups so far - one of the clearest strong points for the Sedona minivan is its excellent 3.3-liter V6 engine and 6-speed automatic transmission.

It can easily last over 200,000 miles as long as you properly keep up with its maintenance and service schedule. The Kia Sedona is a reliable vehicle that doesn't cost much to maintain in comparison with other vehicles in the same category.

Summary: Kia Motors America (Kia) is recalling certain 2013-2015 Optima and 2014-2015 Sorento vehicles. Brake fluid may leak inside the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU), possibly resulting in an electrical short. Tip: Recalls don't affect every vehicle of the same year, make and model.

The Sedona was Kia's principal product in the minivan market until the more SUV-like styled Carnival replaced it. While not a super-advanced vehicle, most Sedona's were credited with limited flaws and could last up to 250,000 miles with general maintenance and good upkeep.

Is KIA discontinuing the Sedona? Minivans have been losing sales recently, so the KIA brand has decided to remarket the Kia Sedona as the all-new Kia Carnival. However, instead of labeling it a cursed, boring minivan, they have rebranded it as a 'multi-purpose vehicle' to bring in a new era of success.

The Sedona is rated by the EPA at 18 mpg city and 24 mpg highway. We haven't had the chance to put a 2021 model through our highway fuel-economy testing, but a model of this generation delivered a respectable (but hardly class-leading) 25 mpg.

Kia's safety recall (NHTSA ID: 23V-652000) applies to the following vehicles and model years: 2014-2016 Cadenza, 2011-2013 Forte/Forte Koup, 2015-2017 K900, 2010-2015 Optima, 2011-2013 Optima Hybrid, 2011-2017 Rio, 2010 Rondo, 2011-2014 Sorento, 2011-2013 Soul and 2010-2013 Sportage.

Owners can go to www.nhtsa.gov/recalls - as well as Kia and Hyundai's websites - and use their 17-digit vehicle identification number to see if their vehicle is affected. Automakers also have 60 days to notify owners of recalled vehicles by letter, but the mailings can happen sooner, the NHTSA said.

The 2021 Kia Sedona's #5 ranking is based on its score within the 2021 Minivans category. It is a finalist for our 2021 Best Minivan for the Money award.
