The series follows Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh), a British intelligence investigator tasked with capturing psychopathic assassin Villanelle (Jodie Comer). As the chase progresses, the two develop a mutual obsession.

The series is adapted from a quartet of novellas by British author Luke Jennings, entitled Codename Villanelle. They were later compiled into a single novel. Both Codename Villanelle and Killing Eve, now in its second season, follow the mutual obsession between an MI5 agent and a charismatic assassin.

Purely from a fan perspective, it's safe to say that later seasons weren't received as warmly as the first two, so there's definitely a sense that now is the right time to bring "Villaneve's" story to a close. In fact, some fans even breathed a sigh of relief when the announcement was made, precisely for that reason.

Killing Eve is available on a range of streaming platforms that are geo-restricted to specific countries. You can only watch it in the UK (only one season), and Switzerland on Netflix. Parents need to know that Killing Eve is a British thriller series that has lots of harrowing moments, violence, and dark humor. People are shot, violently stabbed, bitten; bloody wounds are frequently shown. There's also some strong sexual content, including simulated sex acts and conversations about infidelity.

The drama was praised for its female representation, both on and off screen, with all four series' showrunners being female. The show centres on the female cat and mouse game between Villanelle, a ruthless but endearing anti-hero defined by her charisma and wit, and Eve, the drama's complex but flawed protagonist.

The first season is pretty good. I'd give it a solid 8/10. Some episodes in the first season are even worth 9/10, mostly because of Jodie Comer and her character. The show loses much of its focus starting season 2 but it's still a decent season with a lot of good moments and several good episodes.

Her story is not the only real life tale Killing Eve producers used to inspire the Emmy-award winning series. Villanelle's murders do not come solely from the writers' imaginations but are actually based on real kills. Her hit on a business mogul using perfume was inspired by the murder of Kim Jong Un's brother.

Is Killing Eve's Eve a psychopath, too? Absolutely. As clinical psychologist Naomi Murphy, who works within the dangerous and severe personality disorder service at HMP Whitemoor, explains to Stylist: “Many may not realise it, but Eve displays many of the same attributes as Villanelle.
