October 14, 2025 Windows 10 will reach end of support on October 14, 2025. The current version, 22H2, will be the final version of Windows 10, and all editions will remain in support with monthly security update releases through that date.

An unsupported version of Windows will no longer receive software updates from Windows Update. These updates include security updates that can help protect your PC from harmful viruses, spyware, and other malicious software which can steal your personal information.

How much does it cost to upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11? It's free. But only Windows 10 PCs that are running the most current version of Windows 10 and meet the minimum hardware specifications will be able to upgrade. You can check to see if you have the latest updates for Windows 10 in Settings/Windows Update.

For example, the current 21H2 version of Windows 10 will only be supported until June 13, 2023, by which date you'll need to be upgraded to the next release to continue receiving support. The rule of thumb here is that current versions of Windows Home and Pro are supported for 18 months.

The final version of Windows 10 is version 22H2, which will reach end of servicing on October 14, 2025. Beginning with Windows 10, version 21H2, feature updates for Windows 10 release are released annually, in the second half of the calendar year, to the General Availability Channel.

Windows 10 version 22H2 is the current and final version of the operating system, though Microsoft said it will continue to release monthly security updates for all Windows 10 editions until it reaches end of support on Oct. 14, 2025.

After January 10, 2023, Microsoft no longer provides security updates or technical support for Windows 10 on devices based on Intel's discontinued Atom Clover Trail series processors. If you have such devices running Windows 10, Microsoft recommends a new PC with Windows 11 for continued security support.

The September 26, 2023 update for Windows 10 Version 22H2 includes cumulative reliability improvements in .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8. Support for Windows 8 ended on January 12, 2016, and support for Windows 8.1 has ended on January 10, 2023.

Users can download Windows 11 the same way you'd get any new version of Windows. Just go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and click Check for Updates. You'll see Feature update to Windows 11. Click Download and install.

Once you complete the upgrade, your Windows 10 license will be converted to a Windows 11 license. So yes, you will always have it and will not be asked for extra fees.
