Michelle Terry In this interview, Michelle Terry, CEO of Movember, shares what was important about this work and what she is most excited about in taking this refreshed impact strategy forward.

What is Movember? Throughout the month of November men are encouraged to grow their moustaches to raise awareness and spark conversation for men's health issues, particularly prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health.

Movember Co-Founder Travis Garone kickstarted a global movement around men's health 16 years ago.

Spurred by a shift away from clean-shaven looks and pop culture influences ranging from indie bands to “Top Gun,” mustaches have been following beards into the mainstream. Data from Gillette estimates that 12.5 million U.S. men, or 9.6% of the U.S. male population, were wearing mustaches as of September 2022.

No Shave November is a campaign created to grow awareness by letting your hair grow for 30 days. Men are challenged to grow out their facial hair, beard, mustache, whatever they can stand! This movement was created to raise awareness of Men's Health issues, including a number of diseases and illnesses; Prostate Cancer.

Two mates (Travis Garone and Luke Slattery) meet up for a quiet beer in Melbourne, Australia, and the idea that sparked Movember is born. The moustache had all but disappeared from fashion trends.

For 2023, we predict thicker, fuller moustaches will be trending with the trendy handlebar style. This style features a long and wide moustache at the ends, which can be groomed into upwards-pointing curls. Moustache wax is a great way to maintain this look.

A mustache became a way to assert one's free past, but also to fit in. It became both a symbol of an older-school, tough-guy virility (see Burt Reynolds and Charles Bronson) as well as refined way to express new sensitivities and creative personas (Sonny Bono and Stan Lee).
