For a creaky old fairy tale considered by many to be past its bedtime story prime, this Snow White turns out to be much, much better than expected. The film fills a void by serving up a darker fairy tale amongst Hollywood's currently lighter, more cartoon-flavored action flicks.

Details like the storybook's style and the fact that the dwarfs yodel (as yodeling was first recorded in Europe in 1545) place Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in mid-to-late 1500s Germany.

SNOW WHITE 'Snow White's time period is pretty easy to pinpoint in 16th century Germany. Not that the film is accurate, but the clues are there – I took a wide swathe from 1500-1530 to come up with something that still maintained the spirit of the original design.

“Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” was immediately hailed as a masterpiece. (The Russian director Sergei Eisenstein called it the greatest movie ever made.)

In addition to the above mentioned violent scenes, there are some scenes in this movie that could scare or disturb children aged under five, including the following: Snow White finds her father lying dead with a dagger in his chest. The dark army throw Snow White into a prison cell where she remains until an adult.

The Huntsman professes his regret for being unable to save her, as her heart and strength remind him of his wife, Sara. He kisses her yet does not notice a second tear fall from her eyes, as two kisses of true love breaks the spell. Snow White awakens and rallies the Duke's army to mount a siege against Ravenna.
