34.61 hp As part of the Cycle World testing protocol, we placed our 2022 Kawasaki KLR650 Adventure on our in-house Dynojet 250i dynamometer, recording horsepower and torque figures. The KLR produced a peak 34.61 hp at 5,910 rpm and 33.52 pound-feet of torque at 4,700 rpm.

Top speed of the KLR650 is 89 MPH. The previous generation model managed zero-to-60 in 5.9 seconds, so the current model should do at least that well. Intended as a dual-sport off-roader, being fast is not the prime consideration.

Ergonomically, the KLR is set up well for highway riding. The footpegs are a little bit farther forward than you would expect on an ADV, or conventional streetbike. They're not quite mid-controls, but they aren't traditionally placed footpegs either - but it is well suited to cruising down the highway.

There's a reason why adventure and off-road riders prefer 21-inch rims., and that's because they're ideal for clearing obstacles, mud, dirt and sand. Weight. Yes, the KLR650 is heavy–approximately 450 pounds (wet) for the base model up to 490 pounds (wet) for the Adventure model.

The KLR650 S uses the same fuel-injected liquid-cooled 652cc single-cylinder engine and five-speed transmission as the other models.

On our in-house Dynojet 250i dynamometer, the 2023 Kawasaki KLR650 S, weighing 464 pounds on our automotive scales, produced 36.9 hp at 6,100 rpm and 35.4 lb. -ft. of torque at 4,600 rpm. Those numbers put the S ahead of the 2021 KLR650 Adventure's 34.6 hp and 33.5 lb.

More moderate use would easily extend that range well over 300km and, I would expect, 400km is achievable.
