1921 The first BAND-AID® Brand Adhesive Bandage hit the market in 1921. Johnson & Johnson cotton buyer Earle E. Dickson, came up with the idea for his young wife, Josephine, who was plagued by minor cuts and burns in her daily cooking.

An adhesive bandage, also called a sticking plaster, medical plaster, or simply plaster in British English, is a small medical dressing used for injuries not serious enough to require a full-size bandage.

Dickson wanted a bandage his wife could easily apply herself, so he took two of the company's early products - adhesive tape and gauze - and combined them by laying out a long piece of surgical tape, and then placing a strip of gauze down the middle. To keep the adhesive from sticking, he covered it with crinoline fabric.

The Band-Aid was invented in 1920 by a Johnson & Johnson employee, Earle Dickson, in Highland Park, New Jersey, for his wife Josephine, who frequently cut and burned herself while cooking.

Dickson pitched the idea to Johnson & Johnson, and the company quickly began production. The resulting product name came from the combination of the words “bandage” and “first-aid.”

His invention, eventually known as BAND-AID® Brand Adhesive Bandages, would go on to change the course of first aid history. Today, the bandages have become a mainstay of medicine cabinets across the world. And they've evolved with the times and customer demand to stretch, resist water and more.

Live Aid, benefit concert held simultaneously at Wembley Stadium in London and JFK Stadium in Philadelphia on July 13, 1985.

The group was composed of forty artists to raise awareness and funds for the Ethiopian famine in 1983–1985. The group's name stemmed from the idea that the musicians were providing aid to the less fortunate and suggested that their project was likened to putting a band-aid on a wound.
