Basically, Stitch Fix promised something it could not deliver at any sort of scale. It's possible that at a high enough volume, some of the inventory costs would have been more manageable, but there was no easy (or likely possible) way to deliver personal service using AI.

As long as you plan on keeping at least one item from each box, the service is essentially free. In that way, Stitch Fix is definitely worth it.

The brand's current CEO, Elizabeth Spaulding, who joined the company as president in 2020 and took over as CEO in August 2021, will be stepping down effective immediately, Lake said. “I will be stepping in as interim CEO and leading the search process for our next CEO,” Lake said Thursday.

Kate Linebaugh: The company has said the economic environment has caused the decline in subscribers. Earlier this month, Lake returned as interim CEO and Stitch Fix laid off 20% of its salaried workers, and it said it would shut down that big warehouse in Salt Lake City just two years after it opened.

One of Stitch Fix's problems is that it is losing money. The company dipped into the red in fiscal 2020, which ended in August of that year. It has been unprofitable since that point, with fiscal 2023 shaping up to be yet another year in the negative column.
