Stelara® is a brand of ustekinumab that treats plaque psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. This medication treats symptoms of these conditions and it isn't a cure. A healthcare provider usually gives you this injection in a hospital or clinic setting.

The studies found that: Up to 76% of adults taking Stelara had at least a 75% improvement in their psoriasis symptoms. Of those taking a placebo, 4% of adults had the same results. Up to 80.6% of adolescents taking Stelara had at least a 75% improvement in their psoriasis symptoms.

In clinical studies of adults with Crohn's disease who were being treated by Stelara, some recorded an improvement in symptoms (or remission) during their third week of treatment. However, it can take up to 8 weeks for Stelara to work.

Ustekinumab (Stelara) is a biologic medication used to lower inflammation and help adult patients and patients six years or older with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis, adult patients with psoriatic arthritis, and adult patients with moderate to severe Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis.

STELARA® is indicated for the treatment of patients 6 years or older with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis who are candidates for phototherapy or systemic therapy.

STELARA® is a 45 mg or 90 mg injection given under the skin, as directed by your doctor. To start, you'll get doses at weeks 0, 4, and then every 12 weeks after that. Your doctor can administer it, or you (or a caregiver) can inject at your home after proper training.

In a medical study, about half of patients taking STELARA® experienced a 20% improvement in their joint symptoms at 24 weeks. Also, nearly 6 out of 10 people saw at least 75% clearer skin. Individual results may vary.

At one year, 40% of patients (4 out of 10) were in remission. At 2 years, 70% of patients (7 out of 10) had no rectal bleeding and fewer daily bowel movements. The most common side effects (3% or more) in ulcerative colitis studies include: Nasopharyngitis (the common cold, sore throat)
