Anki, maker of both the Overdrive tracks and those adorable little mini-robots like Cosmo and Vector, shut down in May of 2019, so there will be no new editions or software updates coming for Overdrive products.

It went bankrupt in April 2019 after losing a critical round of funding and shut down the following month.

A failed round of financing was reportedly to blame. CEO Boris Sofman told employees that a deal had failed to materialize “at the last minute”, as it also happened with acquisition interests from companies such as Microsoft, Amazon, and Comcast.

free As it was based off the free desktop code I make available, the AnkiDroid developers decided to make the Android version free as well.

The Android version is developed by a different group of people, who based it off the computer version I wrote. Because they have day jobs and can only work on it in their free time, AnkiMobile is better supported: no questions or bug reports go unanswered, the app is more polished, and most bugs get fixed quickly.
