A higher resolution unit gives a better picture. Which is, of course, the point of using LiveScope technology in the first place. The better you can see the sonar returns, the better chance you have of success. For the highest resolution, consider the GPSMAP® 8600 series.

So after taking the plunge into a new 106SV Ultra, I learned that it will support the LVS12 livescope transducer with no black box needed. Also found that my old 93SV will support a PS22 Panoptix transducer, again no black box needed.

There are several types of sonar available, each with special capabilities. And each requires a different transducer to work most effectively.

A 10 inch is of course better but not worth the extra expense to me. The 12's are fantastic but to pricey for my blood. Im running a 10" screen and the latest version of livescope. Glad I went that route.

Over 99% reported that they would choose the PanOptix if they had to do it all again. So while it appears that patients may have glare, halos, or starbursts due to their PanOptix, the freedom from glasses and overall quality of vision is worth it for most.

The downsides of the PanOptix include the potential for glare, halos, and decreased contrast sensitivity at night.
