FriXion erasable pens contain thermochromic inks that have colored low-temperature forms and colorless high-temperature forms. Liquid nitrogen can be used to kinetically trap the high-temperature forms of the ink at temperatures at which ordinarily the low-temperature forms are more thermodynamically stable.

And it'll just erase. Right off super handy. So that's a really great thing you don't feel like get it wet like the water-soluble. Ones or the air erase little ones that don't always come out this.

As the name implies, the reason these pens are fully erasable is friction. The ink itself is heat-sensitive, so when rubbed with the eraser, it reacts and turns invisible - no shedding, no blotchy marks, no ragged holes in your notebook.

The Frixion ink is actually a combination of two things: gel ink, and a thermo ink. The addition of the thermo ink is what makes the gel ink disappear with heat. But note, Frixion pens are basically gel pens with some added thermo ink.

The Frixion pen contains a unique ink that is thermo-sensitive. When you rub the eraser on the end of the pen against the paper, you generate enough friction heat to turn the ink invisible (making it look like it has been erased).

If you need erasability, or want a pencil alternative, then I highly recommend it. The friction eraser works well, removing most ink from the page when needed. It's impressive, and there isn't a better option. (Pro tip: You don't need special paper or notebooks for the eraser to work.)
