Location, Location, Location. As in real estate, location is among the most important considerations in building a duck blind. First and foremost, a blind must be located where ducks want to go. The prevailing wind and the position in relation to the sun are also important factors.

Folded dimensions are a compact 53” L x 36” W and set up size is 96” L x 42” W x 18” D to comfortably hide 4 hunters.

It takes an hour to build a portable blind that will hide you from ducks all season. Twice I hunted a prime spot last duck season and failed to fire a shot. I first tried an A-frame blind tucked into a tree line and then a layout blind in the open. The first blind was too tight to heavy cover, which ducks avoided.

The mallard is 50–65 cm (20–26 in) long, of which the body makes up around two-thirds the length. The wingspan is 81–98 cm (32–39 in) and the bill is 4.4 to 6.1 cm (1.7 to 2.4 in) long. It is often slightly heavier than most other dabbling ducks, weighing 0.7–1.6 kg (1.5–3.5 lb).

Jumbo Pekins can reach around 13 lbs, Muscovy drakes up to 15 lbs. but the females are only about half that size. The largest wild ducks that I know of are the Eiders at around 6 lbs.

20 to 26 inches long The size of a duck depends on its species. Generally, they range from 20 to 26 inches long and weigh from 1.6 to 3.5 pounds.

The American woodcock probably has the largest field of view of any bird, 360° in the horizontal plane, and 180° in the vertical plane.

In the coop or duck house, you'll need to allow three to five square feet of floor space per duck.

A good rule of thumb is to have about 16 square feet of outdoor roaming area and 4 to 6 square feet of ground space in a shelter for each pet duck. If you plan to keep your ducks indoors during the winter, plan for 25 square feet of space per pet.
