Ozone, on the other hand, is designed to oxidize odors at their source. It usually dissipates less than an hour, leaving the air smelling fresh, with no residue. In fact, it will even eliminate the heavy smell that can linger from a deodorizer.

An ozone generator breaks down oxygen molecules in the air so they can bind to other organic molecules (that cause the odors) and change them into ozone, ultimately eliminating those odors. Ozone generators are frequently used in rental trucks and hotel rooms to eliminate cigarette smoke smell, and they really work!

The Scent Crusher unit uses what's called a corona discharge method to create Ozone using electricity and dielectric plates. It creates 500 mg/h of Ozone.

Ozone is oxygen O2 enriched with an extra molecule of oxygen to make O3 It is as harmless to normal materials as sunlight but much more reactive. Ozone dramatically increases oxidation. Perfume is a VOC and its odour can be completely removed by ozone gas.

General Guidelines for Runtime Mild Odors: For minor odors, a couple of hours might suffice. Moderate Odors: Set aside 4-6 hours for a medium-level stink. Severe Odors: If things are really bad, you might need to run the ozone machine overnight or for 8-12 hours.

Exposure to ozone may cause headaches, coughing, dry throat, shortness of breath, a heavy feeling in chest, and fluid in the lungs. Higher levels of exposure can lead to more severe symptoms. Chronic exposure may lead to asthma. Workers may be harmed from exposure to ozone.

The odor threshold concentration for ozone is about 0.02-0.04 mg. m-3 (0.01-0.02 ppm).
