Frequently Asked Questions about showtime tv spot, 'george & tammy'

Yes. Was the public dramatically misled from the portrayal of these two country legends? Zooming out and looking at the entirety of the series as opposed to zooming in on each little scene and scrutinizing it, probably not. George & Tammy did a fair job telling the story of these two in a generally accurate manner.

George and Tammy tied the knot in 1969 and from then on, the couple went through a tumultuous relationship dealing with alcoholism, drug abuse, and erratic behavior. AND, all of this was happening while the two were at the height of their careers.

The couple were married from 1969 to 1975 and ended due to Jones' struggle with substance abuse. Before their split, they had one daughter together, Tamela Georgette Jones Lennon. Even after Wynette and Jones divorced, they continued to record music together and go on tour.

After Wynette's death three years later, Jones said in a statement, "I am just very glad that we were able to work together and tour together again. It was very important for us to close the chapter on everything that we had been through. I know Tammy felt the same way. Life is too short.

Georgette also reveals that Tammy admitted that the kidnapping story concocted in 1978 to account for her bruises was actually a cover-up of George Richey beating her. She alleges her stepfather, who died last year, was definitely abusive to the country legend during their longtime marriage.

Richey, a longtime smoker, died on July 31, 2010, following a long battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Wynette recounted in her 1979 autobiography that Jones once chased her through their home with a loaded rifle (though Jones disputed this in his own 1996 memoir). In 1973, she filed for divorce. The two soon reconciled, with Wynette explaining that the divorce filing had been an attempt to rein in Jones' drinking.

GEORGE & TAMMY chronicles the country music power couple, Tammy Wynette and George Jones, whose complicated-but-enduring relationship inspired some of the most iconic music of all time.

In 1969, Wynette married George Jones. They recorded and toured together as a duet. Their relationship went through several challenges, ultimately ending in their 1975 divorce.

When they finally did meet, they fell madly in love and made beautiful music. But it was a tough road. He was an alcoholic, she was addicted to painkillers, and the songs that would come to define them were confessions of the real pain they were living through.

"We were standing at the foot of the bed and George just hasn't said nothing, and all of a sudden, he opened his eyes, and I was fixin' to go toward him, and the doctor kind of held me back," Nancy said. She recounts his final words as: "Well hello there. I've been looking for you. My name's George Jones."
