Madden NFL 25 on Gen 4 will have deeper commentary with a better knowledge of previous games. Jim Nantz, Phil Simms, and sideline reporter Danielle Bellini can tell a more interesting story by referencing key injuries and week-to-week storylines.

Instead of numbering it Madden NFL 14 with the year like in previous versions, the "25" in the title refers to the 25th anniversary of the Madden NFL series. The eighth-generation console versions of Madden NFL 25 are the very first games to run on EA Sports's Ignite game engine.

If you buy Madden 21 physically, you will be able to insert the PS4 disc you buy into the PS5, which will allow you to download the PS5 client. Any time you want to play Madden 25 on PS5, you will need to have the PS4 disc you own inserted into the console as a key.

Because of Madden's insistence that the game be as realistic as possible, the first version of John Madden Football did not appear until 1988. EA has released annual versions since 1990, and the series' name changed to Madden NFL in 1993 after EA acquired the rights to use NFL teams and players.

All in all, Madden 25 is a decent, if not revolutionary sign-off for the franchise for this generation of consoles, and no doubt we'll see it continue on the Xbox One and PS4. While it would have been nice if they'd played up the nostalgia a bit more (like they did with NHL 14), it's a fine game of football.

In addition to Owner mode, Madden NFL 25 now allows for offline fantasy drafts, import draft class, offseason position changes, the ability to control 32 different characters in an offline Connected Franchise mode, and a transaction log of all the moves made in the league.
