Answer and Explanation: Catching Fire takes place in a dystopian version of the United States called Panem. The country has broken into twelve districts which are all overseen by the Capitol.

Answer and Explanation: The conflict in Catching Fire is primarily between President Snow and Katniss. She made him look bad during the 74th Hunger Games by highlighting the Games' cruelty and then outwitting the Gamemakers. Snow bides his time after the Games.

In an interview with Collins, it was noted that the novel "tackles issues like severe poverty, starvation, oppression, and the effects of war among others." The novel deals with the struggle for self-preservation that the people of Panem face in their districts and the Hunger Games in which they must participate.

Great read, appropriate for all kids above 12. There is a few kisses between peeta, gale, and Katniss, but no overly sexual content. As a Christian mother, I approve of this book for my children. Violence is a common theme in the book though, but I think most kids 12+ are mature enough for it.

The book is rated by Scholastic as grade 5.3 and for ages 11-13. Parents' concerns about The Hunger Games center around violence. The book has a lot of it, and it is graphic at times. Much of the plot focuses on "the games" in which children kill children.

Con: The story involves children killing children, and it's extremely violent. I will make recommendations for parents of young children (don't) and for parents of older children (very carefully). Hunger Games has a PG-13 rating, despite the clearly violent nature of the story.

Panem Fans of the popular The Hunger Games trilogy know that the stories are set in Panem, a futuristic area previously called North America, with a capital located somewhere in what was known as the Rockies. Panem is divided into districts, each of which has a primary industry.

Why The Hunger Games Happened & Why They Lasted For So Long. Dr. Gaul believed that the Hunger Games were the perfect tool to remind the Districts and the Capitol of the devastation of war. She believed that Highbottom's idea of forcing children to fight to the death reflected humanity's basic impulses.

The main conflict in The Hunger Games is man against society, or in Katniss's case, woman against society. The Games are tools of the dystopic society, and they are used in such a manner that creates terribly conflict for young people who are randomly selected as tributes to fight to the death of one or the other.

Haymitch Katniss feels betrayed, most of all by Haymitch, who used her and Peeta. Eventually she wakes to find Gale there. He's badly injured and tells her the Capitol bombed District 12 after the Games. He got Prim and Katniss's mother out in time, but the District 12 is gone.
