Klay Thompson scored 17 points in his return from two devastating injuries that sidelined him more than two and a half years, helping the Golden State Warriors beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 96-82 on Sunday night.

The 32-year-old guard did not play in any back-to-backs last season and will likely be rested for other games as well throughout this season. These injury troubles began during the 2019 Finals when Thompson suffered an ACL tear which saw him miss the entire 2019/20 season.

It's been nearly 3½ years since Thompson crumpled to the ground under the basket at Oracle Arena in Game 6 of the NBA Finals with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. It's been two years since he tore his right Achilles tendon in a pickup game at a gym in downtown Los Angeles.

The four players, Connor Ungar, Max Wanner, Lynden Lakovic, and Marek Howell were suspended in February after an off-ice incident while on a road trip in Edmonton. Edmonton police told CTV News the incident was believed to be non-criminal in nature and therefore would not comment any further on the matter.

The league said they were subject to discipline on the basis of “failing to provide the proper oversight and supervision required to ensure a safe and positive environment for players, in particular, while travelling.” The Moose Jaw Warriors Hockey Club was also fined $25,000.

Warriors forward Draymond Green officially has marked down a timeline of when he would like to call it a career. “I don't want to play basketball until I'm 40. I really only want to play basketball for another four years after this,” Green told ESPN's Stephen A.

Two things are certain going forward: 1) Both Thompson and the Warriors want to reach a contract extension that will keep him with the only team he has ever played for; 2) Following a couple of severe injuries, Thompson is no longer the elite two-way, All-NBA level player he once was and he'll have to take a pay cut.
