How does Fasenra work? Fasenra activates the immune system (the body's natural defences) to kill the eosinophils in the blood and lungs. This helps to reduce inflammation, resulting in a reduction in asthma attacks and improvement of symptoms.

FASENRA is indicated as add-on therapy in patients aged 12 years and over with severe eosinophilic asthma (blood eosinophil count ≥300 cells/µL or ≥150 cells/µL if on oral corticosteroid treatment) (see Section 5.1 - Clinical Efficacy and Safety).

FASENRA is a biologic designed to target and remove eosinophils, a key cause of severe asthma.

Fasenra is FDA-approved to treat severe eosinophilic asthma in adults and children ages 12 years and older. Asthma is a condition in which your airways become swollen, making it hard to breathe. With eosinophilic asthma, you also experience high levels of eosinophils (a type of white blood cell).

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION FASENRA may cause serious side effects, including: allergic (hypersensitivity) reactions, including anaphylaxis. Serious allergic reactions can happen after you get your FASENRA injection. Allergic reactions can sometimes happen hours or days after you get your injection.

A normal eosinophil count is between 30 and 350 cells per microliter of blood. A count is higher than normal with results of more than 500 cells per microliter of blood and low if it is less than 30 cells per microliter of blood.

Overall, treatment-emergent anti-drug antibody response developed in 13% of patients treated with FASENRA at the recommended dosing regimen during the 48 to 56 week treatment period.

As with most drugs, some people can have an allergic reaction after taking Fasenra. But allergic reactions to Fasenra are rare. In clinical studies, only 3% of people who took Fasenra had an allergic reactions. In comparison, 3% of people who took a placebo (treatment with no active drug) had an allergic reaction.

FASENRA is administered once every 4 weeks for the first three doses, and then once every 8 weeks. FASENRA is a maintenance medicine and should be added to current treatments.

Interrupting or stopping FASENRA treatment may cause your asthma symptoms and asthma attacks to come back or become more frequent. Do not stop using or reduce the dose of your other asthma medicines unless your doctor advises you to.

Eosinophils make up 0.0 to 6.0 percent of your blood. The absolute count is the percentage of eosinophils multiplied by your white blood cell count. The count may range a bit between different laboratories, but a normal range is usually between 30 and 350.
