The primary “active ingredient” in Efferdent is sodium perborate monohydrate (BO3Na•H2O). It is one of two com- monly used alkaline oxidizing agents in denture cleansers. The other commonly used agent is carbamide peroxide [9]. Sodium perborate monohydrate is an irritant.

Dilute sodium hypochlorite (i.e. a mild bleach) is the main constituent of several brands of denture cleanser. Other ingredients include such chemicals as: sodium bicarbonate – or baking soda, which alkalizes the water, cleaning the dentures.

Use white vinegar. White vinegar effectively removes plaque buildup and bacteria from your dentures. There no need to dilute the vinegar. Just fill up a cup with it and soak the device overnight.

Denture tablets are safe for daily use. Using these products more than once per day is unnecessary and a waste of time and money.

Do not soak your dentures in cleaner overnight. There are some denture cleaners that are made for overnight use, but we typically do not recommend them. A standard cleaning tablet is usually sufficient, followed by an overnight soak in plain water.
