It is said that a local innkeeper gave Luini a homemade almond-flavored liqueur as a gift in gratitude for using her inn as a backdrop for his painting. The secret recipe of this almond-flavored liqueur was passed down from generation to generation until it was produced commercially by the Reina family in 1525, who eventually sold it to the Illva Saronno group in 2001.
