Who is Orson Bean?

Orson Bean was an American comic actor, television personality, and writer who achieved popularity as a commercial actor. Born on July 22, 1928, in Burlington, Vermont, Bean spent his early years in a dysfunctional family before attending the Cambridge School of Weston, Massachusetts.

Bean began his career as a magician and later transitioned into acting. He moved to New York City in the 1950s, where he became a regular performer on The Tonight Show and appeared in several Broadway productions.

In the 1960s, Bean became a famous commercial actor, known for his appearances in television ads for a variety of products, including Maxell Audio and Blue Nun Wine. His quirky and eccentric personality made him a fan favorite, and he continued to work in commercials throughout his career.

In addition to his commercial success, Bean also acted in movies and television shows throughout his career. He appeared in the films "Being John Malkovich," "Anatomy of a Murder," and "Miracle on 34th Street," among others. On television, he appeared in popular shows like "Desperate Housewives," "How I Met Your Mother," and "Modern Family."

Bean was married three times and had four children. He was also an outspoken political activist and was involved in numerous causes, including civil rights and anti-war efforts. Tragically, Bean was killed at the age of 91 in 2020 after being struck by two vehicles while walking in Venice, California.
