Who is Martin Luther King, Jr.?

Martin Luther King Jr. was a prominent social activist and leader in the American civil rights movement. He was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia. King played a key role in advocating for equality and human rights for African Americans , as well as disadvantaged individuals and victims of injustice, through peaceful protests and nonviolent resistance.

Some of the major events associated with Martin Luther King Jr. include the Montgomery Bus Boycott, which he helped organize in response to racial segregation in public transportation; the 1963 March on Washington, during which he delivered his famous "I Have a Dream" speech; and his efforts to push for the passage of the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act.

Martin Luther King Jr. was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 for his commitment to nonviolent activism and his contributions to the civil rights movement. He was tragically assassinated on April 4, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee.

King's legacy continues to inspire and his impact on civil rights and equality is widely recognized. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a U.S. federal holiday, is observed on the third Monday of January each year in honor of his contributions to the country.
